WHO WE ARE

Picture of Flatbush Park Jewish Center

We are committed to: Torah study and its observance; daily prayer morning and evening; strong support for the State of Israel; charitable support of worthy institutions and individuals. We strive to build and maintain a vibrant, dynamic and cohesive Jewish community in Mill Basin, the south-east corner of Brooklyn, New York. Our membership is a mix of young and old; of American, European and Israeli birth; sharing a deep commitment to Jewish life and community.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1952, the congregation built its permanent home at its present location in 1960 in the buildings that house the Schreiber Sanctuary, the Mestel Midrash, the Berkower Lounge, and the Sisterhood ULAM. The Center building of gymnasium/auditorium, classrooms, early childhood center, and offices on East 63rd Street was added in 1967, forming the complex that includes Sanctuary, Chapel, Lounges, Auditorium/Gymnasium, Library, classrooms and offices.

Major endowments include: the Charles L. Schreiber Sanctuary, the Morris Mestel Chapel, the Jackson Building, the Dorothy and David Schachne Synagogue School, the Ida and Jerry Kafka Auditorium, the Joseph Berkower Lounge, the Sisterhood Ulam, the Jack and Rae Krinick Torah Institute, the Dorothy and Martin Bell Torah Center, and the Charles R. Harary Library for Judaic Studies.

In 1992, with funding by the Crown Heights Yeshiva, and major support of our Jewish Center, the fourth building including classrooms, library, and offices was added to our campus. It is the new, permanent home of the Crown Heights Yeshiva.
