Born in Marash, Turkey in 1943, Abraham Levy lived in Israel from 1949 to 1963.  He studied at Agudat Israel in Ramat-Gan and continued his education at Yeshivah Aet-T'Zion in Bnei-Berak.  He earned his accounting degree at Pitman College in Tel-Aviv.  Abraham served in the Israel Defense Force from 1961 to 1963.  He came to America in 1963 and became an American citizen in 1970.

He worked his way up and established a successful plumbing supply business.  For the past 32 years, Abraham and his wife Eileen lived in Brooklyn where they raised their three children.

A good part of Abraham’s life has focused on community service, helping both civic and Jewish organizations with philanthropy and leadership.

Abraham Levy founded and served as the first President of the Sephardic Center of Mill Basin.  In 1990, he was asked to return to the Flatbush Park Jewish Center as its Vice President and Membership Chairman, where he soon doubled its membership.  He currently is  serving  an  unprecedented  eighth  term as President of the Center.

Abraham guided the Center’s congregation in many successful programs. He chaired the Center's successful Torah Dedication Campaign in 1993.   In 1995 he was instrumental in the refurbishing of the sanctuary.  Another proud moment in Abraham’s administration was the fundraising for and purchase of an ambulance to serve the community.

Abraham served as Development Chairman for Crown Heights Yeshiva and secured the funds to complete its new building.  He led four congregational trips to Israel.  In 1983, Abraham and his wife Eileen received the Negev Award from State of Israel Bonds.  In 1989, Abraham received the Leadership Award from Crown Heights Yeshiva.  In 1995, he received the Presidential Award from Yeshiva Shearit Israel.  In 1996 at the New York Hilton Hotel, Abe and Eileen were honored with the Jerusalem Humanitarian Award in recognition of their outstanding commitment to the people of Jerusalem and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.

Abraham Levy was honored at the Emigrant Savings Bank’s Emigrant Awards Program on September 19, 2000 at ceremonies in the New York City Council Chamber.  The honor, recognizing Abraham Levy’s contributions to the growth and vitality of New York City, was presented by City Council President Peter Vallone

Abraham Levy received the Distinguished Community Service Award at a dinner in his honor on November 16, 2000 at the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center, sponsored by Boys Town Jerusalem in recognition of his effective support for their charitable work.
